30.10.24 UPDATE Railway Car Park Bus Stop

Oct 30, 2024 | News

In total 34 members of the public attended Padstow Town Council’s meeting with 6 members of the public requesting to speak and address the Council on the Railway Bus Stop.

The Chair of Padstow Town Council advised that “Through the diligence of Padstow Town Council (PTC) throughout the last 2 ½ years we were able to get the right people from Cornwall Council and Go Cornwall around a table to have a meaningful conversation. Where it was acknowledged and accepted that there were areas of concern that needed to be addressed by all parties.  This was the step forward we needed.”

At the request of PTC, a joint Letter of Intent from Cornwall Council and Go Cornwall was provided, acknowledging the issues and their intention in working collaboratively with Padstow Town Council.

Padstow Town Council was happy to agree to the request by Cornwall Council and Go Cornwall that whilst a mutually acceptable solution is being worked up, including a comprehensive review of the bus stop, that an extension be given to the current desist date to 5 April 2025.

Richard Stevens Managing Director Go Cornwall Bus said “Go Cornwall Bus is pleased with Padstow Town Council’s decision to extend current local bus access in the Railway Car Park until April 2025, allowing us to continue serving the community while collaboratively addressing safety enhancements. This decision, supported by our recent Letter of Intent with Cornwall Council, marks an important step forward in maintaining essential public transport links for local residents and visitors.”

“We look forward to working closely with Padstow Town Council and Cornwall Council on a long-term solution that prioritises public safety and access. I am reassured that together, we are committed to making local bus services in Padstow a permanent, safe, and effective benefit for the community.”

The Chair added “PTC appreciates the commitment and wants to move forward in a constructive and collaborative way.  It is disappointing that it has taken this long to get to this point but consider the Letter of Intent a “reset” and one that myself and my Council welcome.  We look forward to working together.”

Full unanimous decision by Padstow Town Council detailed below:-
RESOLVED
1)     That Padstow Town Council welcome the joint Letter of Intent from Cornwall Council and Go Cornwall dated 29 October 2024 and confirm that Padstow Town Council share the commitment to work collaboratively.

2)     In light of the recent meeting with Cornwall Council and Go Cornwall representatives, receipt of the joint Letter of Intent and confirmation from Cornwall Council that between today and 6 April (date of next network change) that there will be no considerable network changes i.e. no increase to the current services [being nos 11 and 56], that Padstow Town Council agree to extend the current desist to 5 April 2025 on the basis that Go Cornwall provide their public liability insurance and risk assessment to Council’s satisfaction [delegated to the Town Clerk] and therefore decision to remove the bus stop by 16 November no longer stand;

3)     Furthermore, that the Town Clerk be delegated to be tasked, in consultation with the Chair and Vice-Chair, to collaboratively working with Cornwall Council and Go Cornwall to progress a mutually agreeable way forward for Council to consider in line with the timescales as outlined in item 2) mindful of PTC as responsible landowner and health and safety; and

4)     That Padstow Town Council reaffirm its request and welcome the commitment given, that an onsite comprehensive safety review be conducted on the Railway Bus Stop collaboratively with PTC, CC and Go Cornwall.
