Elections – 1 May 2025

On Thursday 1st May 2025, there will be local elections across Cornwall for Cornwall Council and all Parish and Town Councils (if contested).

Notice of Elections will be published by Cornwall Council on Friday 14 March 2025.

Padstow Town Councillor?

If you are thinking about putting yourself forward as a Town Councillor, you may find the following information helpful in your decision making:

  • Padstow Town Council has 12 Councillors, spread across two Wards: Padstow (9) and Trevone (3).
  • Election term is for 4 years – May 2025 to May 2029.
  • Meetings take place on a Tuesday evening:
    • Full Council meetings are held on the last Tuesday of the month at 7.30 pm (except August and December when there is usually no meeting)
    • Committee meetings usually commence at 6.30/7 pm. The Council’s current Standing Committees are Planning; Leisure, Tourism and Open Spaces; Highways, Roads and Transport; Finance and General Purposes and Staffing.
  • Visit the Town Council website to look at past meetings/information.
  • Attend meetings of the Town Council.
  • Consider whether you would like to play a key role in decision making on behalf of your local community.
  • In addition to meetings, can you be available to host, organise and support community events?

Who Can Stand?

To be a Local Councillor you must be at least 18 years old, be a British citizen, an eligible Commonwealth citizen, a citizen of the Republic of Ireland, a qualifying EU citizen or an EU citizen with retained rights.
You must also meet at least one of the following four qualifications:

  • You are, and will continue to be, registered as a local government elector for the parish in which you wish to stand from the day of your nomination onwards.
  • You have occupied as owner or tenant any land or other premises in the parish area during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.
  • Your main or only place of work during the 12 months prior to the day of your nomination and the day of election has been in the parish area.
  • You have lived in the parish area or within three miles of it during the whole of the 12 months before the day of your nomination and the day of election.

How to apply to be a Padstow Town Councillor?

  • Friday 14 March 2025 hard copy of the nomination pack will be available to collect from Padstow Town Council Offices, Station House, Station Road, Padstow PL28 8DA. Reception opening hours are Monday - Friday 10am - 1pm.
  • Completed nomination papers must be delivered by hand to the place specified in the Notice of Election by 4pm on Wednesday 2 April 2025.
  • Please book an appointment to submit your completed nomination papers by hand Email: voter-registration@cornwall.gov.uk or call 01872 324196.  You may have to wait for a prolonged period of time if an appointment has not been made.
