UPDATE: Minor works to touch up some lettering inscription on the War Memorial at Chapel Stile Field were due to take place from 29 April 2024 (weather permitting) with the works being undertaken by an appointed Conservator.
The Conservator has advised the Town Council that due to the weather forecast for w/c 29 April, that these works will be postponed and they have now been re-arranged to take place on 16-17 May 2024 instead (again, weather permitting).
The work involves selective repainting of areas of lettering that have lost painted surface, rendering them difficult to read. The lettering has been painted black and was last retouched after the cleaning of the war memorial in 2014.
Names of those lost in both the First and Second World Wars are included on the Memorial which was unveiled on 27 September 1922.
The work area will be cordoned off whilst these works are undertaken.
The Memorial is Grade II Listed for the reason of Historic Interest, sitting within a Conservation Area and appears on the Historic England Listed Guide. For these reasons, Padstow Town Council have sought and received confirmation from Cornwall Council’s Historic Environment Planning Officer that Listed Building Consent is not required to undertake these minor works.
